Peripheral Nerve Biopsies and Surgery (Neurosurgery)
Body Area: Arms / Hands
Body Parts: Palm
Symptoms: Twitching
Description:
A peripheral nerve biopsy is the removal of a small piece of a nerve for examination. A nerve biopsy may be effective in diagnosing and scheduling surgery for axon degeneration, nerve damage, demyelination and inflammatory nerve conditions. Surgery may be effective in treating all of these nerve problems and their associated symptoms. Specialized surgery for brachial plexus injury, carpal tunnel syndrome, thoracic outlet syndrome and nerve tumors is effective in treating these nerve disorders. Additionally, in cases where the patient's peripheral nerve is either severely damaged or injured, surgery may be the only option.
