Egg Freezing (Fertility and Sexual Health)

Body Area: Female Specific
Body Parts: Genitals
Symptoms: Irregular or Missed Menstrual Periods
Description:
Egg freezing (oocyte cryopreservation) is a method of storing healthy eggs until you are ready to use them or donate them for future use. Similar to egg donation, the woman whose eggs are to be harvested may be given a fertility drug to stimulate her ovaries into developing several mature follicles, each potentially containing an egg. The eggs are collected and frozen, later to be thawed and rehydrated for use. Women may want to freeze their eggs for future use if they have recently been diagnosed with cancer and would like to preserve healthy eggs, or if they wish to wait to start a family until after their more fertile years.
