Description:
There are several options for a detached or dislocated retina. The Scleral Buckle, involves attaching a small band around the eye to push the wall of the eye against the retina. A vitrectomy involves removing the vitreous gel from the eye to give better access to the retina. At that point a surgeon will use a laser or a freezing probe. to reattach your retina. At the end of the surgery, your eye is filled with silicone oil or gas that will eventually be replaced by your body's natural production of vitreous gel. Pneumatic retinopexy involves injecting a gas bubble into your eye and positioning your head so the bubble floats to the area of your retina detachment. The bubble allows fluid to be removed from behind the retina, at which point the retina is reattached by laser or a freezing probe.
