There are many different types of dementia and even more treatment options, though dementia is not always stoppable or reversible. If you suffer from, or suspect a loved one to suffer from dementia, meet with a psychiatrist to develop a treatment plan that may include prescription medication and cognitive training (mental exercises). Some of the following are common types of dementia: Alzheimer's Disease, Corticobasal Degeneration, Creutzfeldt-Jakob Disease, Dementia Pugilistica, Frontotemporal Dementia, Huntington's Disease, Lewy Body Dementia, and Vascular Dementia. Dementia is best treated if caught early, so if you notice signs of confusion, forgetfulness, memory loss, changes in judgment, or even difficulty with speech, a screening consultation is a good way to start.
