A bypass surgery is used to treat narrowing arteries or veins in the body by rerouting the blood supply around the blockage. The surgeon will open the artery above the blockage and replace the blocked section with a graft from other arteries in your body or from a synthetic material. This is usually done wile under general anesthesia.
