Brain Tumor Removal (Neurosurgery)

Body Area: Head / Neck
Body Parts: Eyes
Symptoms: Enlarged Pupils
Description:
Brain tumor surgery is removal of a brain tumor - any mass of abnormal cells in the brain, as much as possible without affecting normal functions of the brain or disabling the patient. It may relieve symptoms of brain cancer, especially those due to pressure in the brain. The tumor can be removed in different ways depending on the characteristics of the individual tumor (i.e. hard or soft and number of blood vessels). The most common type of brain surgery is called craniotomy, which is a surgical incision made into the skull. Complications and problems after surgery are rare, though swelling of the brain is a concern and drugs are usually given to the patient to reduce chances of swelling.
