Description:
Bone marrow transplants are used to treat patients with leukemia, multiple myeloma, immune deficiency disorders, aplastic anemia, lymphomas and some cases of breast or ovarian cancer. During a bone marrow transplant the patients existing bone marrow is destroyed and the new healthy bone marrow is infused into the patient’s blood stream. If the transplant is successful the new bone marrow will begin to produce healthy blood cells.
