Balloon angioplasty is also known as Coronary Angioplasty, Cerebral Angioplasty, Percutaneous Transluminal Coronary Angioplasty, Angioplasty, Peripheral Percutaneous Transluminal Angioplasty, PTCA, and Balloon Dilation. A Balloon Angioplasty is one of the standard treatment options for coronary artery disease (CAD) and sometimes as treatment for a heart attack. CAD is a disease where blood flow to the heart is limited by hardened arteries that are clogged with fatty plaque. A Balloon Angioplasty is used to move fatty plaque against the artery wall to continue normal blood flow to the heart.
