Ayurveda, or “The Science of Life” is a system of medicine native to India, with it's main focus being to prescribe a regimen of holistic medicine to prevent disease to the patient. There are two main sub-practices of Ayurveda: traditional and Maharishi. Both types of Ayurvedic practitioners prescribe herbs, believe that disease results from an imbalance in the body's meridian and use many of the same remedies for treating illness.
