Dallas NBC station KXAS aired a feature story on MediBid on the nightly newscast May 10, 2016. A Houston-based company serving patients nationwide, MediBid, saves patients money on medical procedures when doctors bid for their business.
Regina Warner of Colleyville had a terribly painful gall stone. She was quoted $25,000 to remove it, yet her insurance would only pay $7,800 of it. Warner used MediBid for gall bladder surgery and selected a physician in Nacogdoches for $4,800. This was covered by her insurance, as well as $1,000 in travel money.
There is not enough price transparency for patients searching for affordable health care. Even with employer sponsored insurance, costs are shifting more heavily onto the employees to pay out-of-pocket. It’s important to be able to shop by price. MediBid CEO Ralph Weber says, “Our mission is to give better quality healthcare at a better price with more choice and more access.” Employers are partnering with MediBid as part of their benefit plans, with 45 companies participating.
To place a request, simply visit www.medibid.com and enter the procedure needed on the patient page. Doctors will then submit bids to perform your procedure. When you receive a bid, you can see the date of bid, location of provider, and their quality rating. You make the choice!
