Ways to Handle Stress


Stress can be caused by many different situations, such as too much work, long lines, or heavy traffic. There are a few simple techniques to help you de-stress and unwind.

1. Positive Self-Talk

We talk to ourselves both out loud and in our heads. Negative self-talk will increase stress, while positive talk will calm you down. Practice positive self-talk every day.

2. Emergency Stress Stoppers

Deal with stress in an instant by using the technique of your choice: Count to 10 before speaking, take deep breaths, walk away from the situation, hug a loved one, or meditawalkingte.

3. Find Pleasure

Doing something that you enjoy is a natural way to fight stress. Taking a 15 minute break each day for some fun time to read, eat with friends, listen to music, watch an old movie, or play cards will keep stress at bay.

4. Daily Relaxation


Relaxation calms mind and body tension. Techniques can be found in yoga and meditation. Practice relaxation skills by finding a comfortable position (sitting on the floor or lying down), closing your eyes and picturing a peaceful place, then inhaling and exhaling slowly for at least 10 minutes.
