We often hear that healthcare should be free, because it is a “basic human right”. Using that thinking, maybe food should be free as well, since it is a basic necessity of life. Maybe housing should be. Perhaps even clothing. If the government supplied the basic necessities of life, then really we could all be equal, and poverty would be defeated. Wouldn’t that work?
Are there any examples in the US where these was free healthcare, free housing, free food, and free clothing?
Yes there was, and it was called slavery, and it existed in the south until 1861.
