Applause for the Coalition of Illinois Counselors Organization!

I think I found this pdf by accident – it is an informaitonal handout for Illinois Counselors, Social Workers, and Psychologists on what it means to fee-split, and what the courts have said about it.  Bottom line – “This is illegal.”  Good job CICO!  If you or someone you know practices medicine in the state of IL, I suggest reading this. It sources the Illinois Medical Practice Act of 1987 and the laws governing fee-splitting for physicians.

I love the way the author repeatedly states fee-splitting is illegal, as if they know that it may take time to penetrate the minds of even their psychologist readers.

From CICO:

Conclusion:  Fee splitting arrangements for Illinois Counselors / Social Workers / Psychologists are illegal. I know some will read the law and decide that it does not apply to them for whatever reason. I frequently hear from counselors who after looking at licensure rules and laws then decide it doesn’t apply to what they are doing mainly because they don’t want it to apply to them.  Fee splitting arrangements for Illinois Counselors / Social Workers / Psychologists are illegal.
