Medicare patients brace for doctor boycott – Mar. 1, 2010

Medicare sets rates based on what they have determined the “cost” should be. Cost is determined by Medicare based on extensive financial questionnaires. In addition, doctors and hospitals who participate in Medicare must agree to a formula which says that reimbursements will be reduced as usage goes up. Based on this, Medicare now expects doctors and hospitals to service Medicare patients for 21% below cost.
